Chromite ore (chromite) has a variety of applications. Some of them are: • Stainless steel production. Adding chromium to carbon steel produces stainless steel that is resistant to corrosion, mechanically strong, heat-resistant and wear-resistant. 23 • Refractory industry. Chromite is used to produce refractory bricks used to line furnaces and refractory cement. • Chemical industry. Chromite is used to produce chromium compounds that are used in leather tanning, textile dyeing, wood preservation and electroplating. • Chrome plating and ornamental products. Chrome ore provides the necessary chromium layer for electroplating processes, resulting in an attractive and durable chrome coating on a variety of metal substrates. • Catalyst production. Some chromium compounds act as catalysts in the petroleum refining industry, facilitating the conversion of hydrocarbons into valuable fuels and petrochemicals. • Foundries. Chromite sand, refractory chromite in granular form, is used in foundry production for both ferrous and non-ferrous castings, especially in the automotive, shipbuilding and heavy engineering industries.
