Lemons belong to the rue family (Rutaceae) and originate from Asia. In addition, the group of citrus fruits to which the lemon belongs is mainly cultivated in subtropical regions, but also includes oranges, grapefruits, mandarins, lindens and easypeelers.
They are grown on warm, deep, well-drained soils. The fruit is rich in vitamin C and citric acid. The peel contains lemon oil with a characteristic flavor; the fruit also contains vitamins. Due to long-term storage and transportation, in addition to fresh consumption, various beverages can be prepared from the fruits and lemon oil can be extracted.
